All staff positions at the Women's Centre are employed by the Mokami Status of Women Council (MSWC). Our work is guided by feminist theory and principles.

This position is funded by the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador - Student Summer Employment Program.

To be eligible for this position applicants must:
•Be entering or returning to Post-Secondary training within the current year.
•Be legally entitled to work in Canada; and
•Not be an immediate family member of the Board of Directors or operators of MSWC.

Position Scope:
The Mokami Status of Women Council (MSWC) is looking for a student to join our Thirfty Fashions team for the summer as a sales associate. Thrifty Fashions is the Mokami Status of Women Council's social enterprise thrift store.The Sales Associate position reports directly to the Thrifty Fashions Manager. The sales associate will be responsible for assisting customers throughout the buying process and helping to create a safe and welcoming environment for our community.

Major Responsibilities & Typical Duties:
•Provide customer service to patrons of Thrifty Fashions
•Develop a welcoming atmosphere for customers
•Complete opening and closing procedures
•Processing payments through cash and debit transactions
•Balancing cash/floats
•Sort/organize donations — restock store as required
•Participate in all staff meetings, training and brainstorming sessions
•Assist in the preparation of clothing donations for shipment to seven Labrador coastal communities
•Represent MSWC at community events when needed
•Other related duties

•Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
•Knowledge of gender equity and community issues as they relate to women and gender diverse individuals
•Knowledge of cultural humility and indigenous cultures and understanding of the impact of intergenerational trauma
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Excellent computer skills
•Understanding of confidentiality practices and ethical workplace conduct

Hours of Work:
This position will be 30 hours a week for 8 weeks. Schedule will be negotiated but will take place between the hours of 8:00am-5:30pm, Monday through Saturday.

Compensation:
$13.20 per hour + MERCS
